GPD – Flush Universal Access Door with Exposed Flange

The GPD is designed for a quick and easy installation on non-rated vertical and horizontal surfaces made of drywall or any other type of material. Its rounded mitered corners, concealed pin hinge and 3/8″ return all around the door make it the sturdiest door on the market. The GPD prevents sagging as compared to flat door panels and requires fewer locks.

Installation Instructions

Model: S-CON

  • The suspension or framing system which accommodates the 1/2” or 5/8” drywall and the architectural access
    panel assembly is required to have a rough- in dimension of the access door size + 2 ½” (minimum) to a maximum of the access door size of + 7” for both the length and width of the access door.
  • For wall applications, the hinges must be placed at the bottom of the unit.
  • The drywall opening to accommodate the access door assembly = the access door size + 3/8” for both the length
    and width of the access door.
  • Proper drywall installation practices minimizing drywall joints around the frame will ensure a high-quality
    application.
  • Secure the drywall to the access panel flange using 1 1/8” or 1 ¼” sharp or drill point drywall screws.
  • Prior to fastening the outer frame assembly, check to ensure the paper on the back side of the drywall is in good
    smooth condition in order to receive the frame assembly.
  • Fasten the outer frame assembly to the drywall and fasten as required.
  • Install the inner panel to ensure square installation and proper functioning of the panel. Adjust if required
    keeping the gap consistent.
  • Install the plastic safety screw covers on the ends of the fasteners.
  • The door panel may be removed for taping purposes.
  • It is imperative that Durabond 90 type of pre-fill product be used to pre-fill around both the inner and outer
    frame assemblies to avoid cracking.
  • Complete the taping application to the desired level of finish.
  • Sand and clean the frame assembly to receive painting.
  • If a lock option is involved, install the lock and align properly after the door panel has been finish-taped.
  • Install the door panel and safety cable assembly.
